When you’re going shopping for RV solar panels, you need to keep in mind that it does not refer to a single thing. The retailers will ask you for specifics, and you have to clarify it to them. Otherwise, he will hand you a different one, which you did not want to have in the first place. In this article, we’ll list the types of RV solar panels out there in the marketplace and how you can choose the best one for you.

Solar panels on a recreational vehicle let you harness solar energy on the go. You can be in a remote hilly area and still generate electricity with these solar panels loaded on your RV. But not all are equally created. Moreover, one type might not fit the bills for the other. So it would be best if you had some basic understanding of the types of RV solar panel.

Generally speaking, based on the material used, there are three types of RV solar panels. These are:

Monocrystalline Solar Panel

These types of solar panels are most commonly used and are made up of large silicon crystals. Since these provide better and more efficient charge output, they are excellent for all purposes, not only in a recreational vehicle. In some studies shows that even in low light conditions, monocrystalline solar panels can produce a higher power output.

Polycrystalline Solar Panel

Poly means many. So as the name might suggest, polycrystalline solar panels are made up of silicon and several small cosmic crystals. And are commonly used, too, and the power output is on par with monocrystalline panels. But these have lower efficiency ratings since the electrons are packed structurally and cannot move around freely.

Amorphous Solar Panel

Amorphous material is mainly used for thin-film panels. The silicon is spread over a large bed to create groups. These types are not as widely used as the two mentioned above since they take up two to three times the roofing space and yield half the power output. But they are inexpensive, and you can find them at cheaper rates.

Depending on the flexibility of the RV solar panel, these can be divided into two categories. These are:

Flexible Solar Panel: These types of solar panels are adjustable. Which means you can bend them, twist them, and curl them without breaking them. This makes them great for use in situations where there’s a high chance of breakage.

Rigid Solar Panel: Rigid solar panels, on the other hand, are not bendable. These solar panels are fixed in a particular dimension, and twisting them will result in breakage. Most panels you will find are rigid.

It is a tricky question to answer since it varies from person to person. If your RV solar panel requirement is on top with little to no maintenance requirement, then go for polycrystalline solar panels. If you want cheaper ones, then choose amorphous ones. It depends on your wish list and budget.
